Why it matters

Glutathione peroxidase is a selenium-dependent enzyme involved in antioxidant defence. Because its activity depends on selenium availability, it functions as an indirect marker of selenium status.

It measures enzyme activity rather than a concentration, which is a functional rather than a quantitative question.
