Why it matters

The standard oestradiol test uses an immunoassay method. LCMS is a different analytical technique, generally regarded as more accurate at low concentrations — which matters most in men, post-menopausal women and children, where levels are low and immunoassay is less reliable.

For premenopausal women with typical levels, the standard test is usually adequate.
