Why it matters

Nickel is common in jewellery, some alloys and certain occupational settings. Blood levels reflect recent exposure.

Note that nickel contact sensitivity — the skin reaction some people have to jewellery — is a different phenomenon from blood nickel concentration, and this test doesn't assess it.
