Why it matters

Myoglobin is released when muscle cells are damaged. It appears in blood quickly and clears quickly, which makes it an early but short-lived marker of muscle turnover.

Before you collect

Recent intense exercise raises myoglobin substantially. Avoid heavy training for at least 48 hours unless testing after exercise is the intent.
