Measures homocysteine, an amino acid produced during normal metabolism.
Measures
Homocysteine, an amino acid produced during normal metabolism.
Why it matters
Homocysteine is produced as part of methionine metabolism and then converted onward. Those conversion steps depend on vitamins B6, B12 and folate.
Because of that dependency, homocysteine is often used as an indirect window on B vitamin status and the methylation processes they support.
Before you collect
Fasting is usually preferred. Note any B vitamin supplements — they directly affect this result. Samples need prompt processing, so collect at a centre rather than late in the day.
Suits
People working with a practitioner on B vitamin status or methylation.
Your next step
Once you have your results, book with a Canwell naturopath, nutritionist or practitioner to talk them through and build a wellness plan that suits you. Book with Canwell
