Gastrin is released by cells in the stomach lining and signals for acid production. Levels rise when acid production is suppressed, which means several common medications directly affect this result.

Before you collect

Proton pump inhibitors substantially raise gastrin. Your practitioner will advise how long to stop beforehand — don't stop on your own. Fasting is usually required. Available at Healius centres only.
