Full Blood Count (FBC) Blood Test

Australia's most commonly ordered blood test. Measures 16 markers across red cells, white cells and platelets.
What this test measures
Sixteen markers: red cell count, haemoglobin, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, MCHC and red cell distribution width; white cell count with the full differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes, lymphocyte ratio, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils); platelet count; and erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
Why these markers matter
The full blood count describes the cells doing three jobs: carrying oxygen, running immune responses, and clotting. It's ordered more than any other blood test in Australia because it covers a lot of ground cheaply. Red cell size and haemoglobin describe oxygen-carrying capacity. The white cell differential describes what the immune system is currently doing. Platelets describe clotting. None of it is conclusive on its own, but together it's a good general picture.
What you get
All 16 markers against their reference ranges in your private dashboard, in plain language. Typically a few business days after collection.
Who this suits
