At-home stool test using PCR to look for the common viral causes of gastrointestinal illness.
What this test measures
PCR testing of a single stool sample for enteric viruses, including norovirus, rotavirus, adenovirus, astrovirus and sapovirus.
Why these markers matter
Bacterial and parasitic causes of digestive upset get most of the attention on general panels. Viruses are a separate group requiring different detection methods, so they're tested for separately. Detection is time-sensitive — viral shedding is highest early in an episode and drops away. Collecting late gives a less useful answer.
What you get
Kit posted to you with instructions and return packaging. Results in your private dashboard, typically within about a week.
Before you collect
Collect as early in the episode as you can. Refrigerate and post back same day.
Who this suits
People with acute digestive symptoms whose practitioner wants viral causes examined.
Your next step
Once you have your results, book with a Canwell naturopath, nutritionist or practitioner to talk them through and build a wellness plan that suits you. Book with Canwell
