Measures creatinine, a waste product from normal muscle metabolism.
Measures
Creatinine, a waste product from normal muscle metabolism.
Why it matters
Creatinine is produced at a fairly steady rate and cleared by the kidneys, which is why circulating levels are used to describe kidney filtration.
An important caveat: production depends on muscle mass. A very muscular person can sit above the standard reference range without that meaning anything unusual for them, and someone with low muscle mass can sit within range despite reduced filtration. Context matters.
Suits
People monitoring kidney markers, usually alongside eGFR.
