Measures international normalised ratio (INR), prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).
Measures
International normalised ratio (INR), prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).
Why it matters
These describe how long blood takes to clot through different parts of the clotting cascade. PT and INR assess one pathway; APTT assesses another. Running them together indicates which part of the process is in question.
INR is also the measurement used to monitor certain anticoagulant medications.
Before you collect
Anticoagulant and some other medications directly affect these results — your practitioner needs to know what you're taking. Never adjust anticoagulant dosing based on a result without medical advice.
Suits
People whose practitioner has requested coagulation testing.
